Elwood: Mrs. Henrietta Willkie, age 82, mother of Wendell Willkie, utilities executive, died Sunday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Grover Montgomery, 1402 South F Street, where she had made her home for the past two years.
She suffered a heart attack Saturday evening, but rallied. She suffered another attack Sunday about 2 p.m. and died soon after.
She was born April 5, 1858, in Warsaw, Indiana. She was married April 21, 1885, to Herman F. Willkie. He died in 1930.
Mr. and Mrs. Willkie came to Elwood fifty years ago from Lagro. Mrs. Willkie was the first woman to be admitted to the Indiana bar. She practiced law during the early years of the century.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Rev. E. J. Yorger officiating. Burial will be in the City cemetery. The body will lie in state at the York funeral home. Relatives shated that the casket will not be opened at the ceremony.
Surviving are four sons, Robert and Fred of Louisville; Wendell of New York, president of The Commonwealth and Southern Corporation; and Edward, of La Grange, Illinois, and two daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Pihl of Berlin, Germany, and Miss Julia Willkie of St. Catherine's, Ontario, Canada.
