He went by the nickname of Charlie. Some records show his middle name as Charleston not Chapman nor Chatman.
He was born on the 4th of December, 1877 in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas to Ida Retta Berry Shappee who was born 2nd of February 1855 and died August 6, 1922. His father was Abner Calvin Shappee Born 1832, Chemung Co., N.Y. and died 1893 in Nebr.
1880 U.S. Census Texas, Grayson County, Sherman 4th Ward shows him as Willie at age 2.
1910 U.S. Census for Jerome Precinct, Lincoln County, Idaho, he was listed as 30 years old working as a laborer in livery, living on Avenue A. (He was working with the blacksmith, his future father inlaw, James Kersey.)
1920 U.S. Census he is listed as William C. Shappe head of house, owning their home with a mortgage, age 42 and married. Here he indicates that his father was born in New York and his mother in Texas. (Different from the 1930 census.) His wife's relatives lived in the same block.
Ethel R. was listed as his wife age 25
his children were all born in Idaho.
Dorothy M. age 4; Sarah R. (Retta) age 3; Lillian I age 2 4/12; and William B. 3/12
The church records show that Charlie and his family left Jerome in 1923.

Shappee, Charles, head, owns his own home and family lives on a farm. He is a male, white and age 52 and a farmer at the time. He was 36 when he first married. He indicated that he was able to read and write. Born in Texas and his father was born in Pennsylvania and his mother born in Illinois.
His wife was Ethel R. age 35, married first when she was 19. She was born in Utah, her father in England and mother born in Utah.
Children: Dorothy M. age 15, daughter; Sarah R age 13, daughter; Lillian age 12, daughter; William B. age 10, son; Florence V. age 5, daughter; Jessie M 2 11/12, daughter.
He died 7 July 1947 and there was a very large gathering for his funeral services.
