Rex P. Sackett was born in Chatfield, Minnesota, on January 7, 1898. He received his early education in his hometown by attending both the elementary and the high schools. While in Chatfield High School, he made a name for himself in athletics, excelling in both baseball and in basketball. Following graduation he played baseball with Rochester in the Minnesota-Iowa League and was so versatile that the team used him in its two regular weekly games and placed him at first base on Sundays and as a catcher on Wednesdays. He also played professional basketball and, at various times, played with the Rochester Aces, the Hormel Packing Company, and the Minnesota Marines. In 1925, he came to Detroit and in December, became associated with the United Savings Bank. He stayed with them until 1952 when the United Savings Bank consolidated with the Manufacturers' National Bank of Detroit. At that time he was named Manager of Maintenance. He held that position for many years.
