Mrs. Hazel Benton Smith Draughon, 86, of 180 Southwood Drive, Clinton, died Thursday at Sampson Regional Medical Center, Clinton, NC.

Mrs. Draughon, a native of Duplin County, was the daughter of the late Walter Franklin Benton and Molly Knowles Benton and the widow of Walter Buck Draughon, Sr. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda S. Sullivan, a son, Charles G. Smith, a grandson, Kevin Strickland, a granddaughter, Linda Kay Maxwell, three sisters, Katie Lewis, Louise Taylor, and Annie Ruth Edwards, and three brothers, Marvin, Walter, Jr. and Benny Lee Benton.

She is survived by three daughters, all of Clinton, Joyce S. Maxwell, Gail S. Strickland and husband Rodney, and Ann S. Simmons and husband Clifton, twelve grandchildren, Glenda Maxwell Daw, Charles "Chuck" Maxwell, Jr., Jeffrey Sullivan, Connie S. Miller, Charles Smith, Jr., Tracey Parker, Shelia Stricland, Michael Strickland, Jennifer LaRose, Cindy Finney, Angie Bradshaw, and Karen Holland, seventeen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

The family recieved friends from 7-9pm, Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the funeral home in Clinton and other times at 119 Pike Dr. Clinton, NC.

The funeral services were held at 3pm, Sunday, March 29, 2009 at the Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton, with the Rev. Wilda Faircloth and the Rev. Dwight Dunning officiating.

Burial was made in the Clinton City Cemetery.
