The sudden deaths of six Houstonians in the 24 hours ending at noon Saturday resulted in two suicide verdicts, the ordering of three autopsies and the whithholding of one verdict pending investigation.... . Autopsies were ordered by Justice W. C. Ragan in the deaths of two city jail prisoners who died suddenly. . A. A. Shuffield, 55, of 1405 Hickory, was arrested by police at 7:50 p.m. Friday in the rear of 1921 Holly. At the city jail at 8:45 p.m., he showed signs of serious illness and was taken to Jefferson Davis Hospital, where he died at 11:45 p.m. . He is survived by his wife, Mrs. A. A. Shuffield; four daughters, Mrs. Alma Watson, Mrs. Inez Cutler, Mrs. Orlia Cutler and Mrs. Azell McAdoo, all of Houston; two sons, Noel and Alcy Shuffield, both of Houston; and seven brothers, Jim Shuffield of Brady and Henry, Oscar, M. B., Walker, Hubert and Barty Shuffield all of Cameron. The body sent to Cameron at 9:30 p.m. Saturday for services there under the direction of the Green Funeral Home. "Will Investigate the Death of Shuffield" . Funeral services for Dock [Alcy Arlend] Shuffield of Houston were conducted on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. from the Little River church with Rev. V. M. Cloyd, pastor First Baptist Church of Cameron, officiating. . Mr. Shuffield died in a Houston hospital on Saturday, September 30. It was said here he had been placed in jail late Friday and was later taken to the hospital when it was discovered he was suffering from serious injuries on the head. He died a few hours later. The cause of his death would be investigated it was reported. . Deceased is a former resident of Milam county having been born and reared at Belmena, the son of the late Jasper Shuffield. The body was brought here Sunday for funeral services and interment at Little River. . He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dock Shuffield of Houston and several children [no names given]. .
