Freeman H. Lord, a life-long resident of this city, passed away at home last Saturday morning after an illness of a few weeks duration, aged 75 years 7months and 41days (note: could be a misprint).
It is the request of the deceased that only the following simple obituary be published.
Freeman H. Lord was born in Hancock County Maine, March 10th 1842 removing to Oshkosh Wis, in 1851 and in 1853 to Pierce County which has since been his home. In August 1862 he enlisted in the 30th Regiment, Wis., Vol. Inf. serving three years. He served two years as assessor of River Falls town and eleven years consecutively as its chairman and seven years as president of the River Falls Insurance Company. In 1894 he was elected to the Assembly serving in the session of 1895 and the extra session of 1896. In August 1896 he was appointed a member of the board of regents of Normal schools, which position he held for thirteen years. He was again elected to the Assembly in 1902. He was united in marriage to Hannah E Prebble, March 9, 1886, who died Nov. 13 1913. He married Ida Barney July 12, 1916 who he leaves surviving, besides his brother Albert H. Lord and one sister Nancy J. Ensign.
The funeral was held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home and was largely attended. Rev. D B Spence officiated and paid an eloquent tribute to the departed. A choir, consisting of Mrs. J. H. Ames, Mrs. M.A. Shepard, Mr. M.A. Shepard and Rev. Bird rendered two beautiful songs - "Beautiful Threads of Gold" and "Gathering Home."
Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery.
