Joan A. Bailey -- Stewartville

STEWARTVILLE -- A memorial service for Joan A. Bailey will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Chatfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jack Smith officiating. Burial will be in Chatfield Cemetery.

Mrs. Bailey, 77, of Stewartville, died Saturday (April 2, 2005) at her home.

Joan King was born Nov. 5, 1927, in Spring Valley and graduated from Chatfield High School in 1945. On Nov. 28, 1948, she married Maurice Bailey at Sumner Center Methodist Church. For 56 years, they lived in rural Chatfield, where he was a farmer and she was a homemaker. She also worked at Root River State Bank and Northwestern Bell telephone in Chatfield. She moved to Stewartville shortly after her husband died in 2004. She was a member of Chatfield United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Marie (Bryan) Strain of Eagan, Minn.; three sons, William (JulLea) and Steven (Vicky), both of Chatfield, and Dr. Ross (Joy) of Mantorville; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and one sister, Joyce Carlson of Washington state. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Friends may call for one hour before the service Friday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Chatfield United Methodist Church. Riley Funeral Home of Chatfield is in charge of arrangements.
