| Birth: | Mar. 24, 1848 Maryland, USA | | Death: | Dec. 3, 1875 Baltimore City Maryland, USA |  Charles was born in Baltimore to Arunah Shepherdson Abell, Esq., (10 Aug 1806 - 19 Apr 1888) and Mary (Fox) Campbell Abell (c.1817 - 16 Feb 1859), who married on 23 Dec 1838.
Arunah was the son of Caleb Abell and Elona (Shepherdson) Hodges Abell (born 1767), who married on 7 Feb 1791. They were both of Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts, at the time of their marriage. Arunah was baptized on 10 Aug 1806 in Seekonk, Bristol, Massachusetts. Much of the early part of Rehoboth is now part of Rhode Island.
Mary was the daughter of John Fox and Sarah (Taylor) Fox, of Peekskill, New York.
Arunah founded The Sun of Baltimore in 1837.
In the 1860 U.S. Census, Arunah was a widower, and his youngest child, Dorothy, was only one year old. Arunah had real estate valued at $96,929. He had six servants in his household in 1860.
In the 1870 U.S. Census, Arunah lived in the next household from Enoch Pratt. Arunah had $75,500 worth of real estate in 1870.
Charles died of typhoid fever at "Guilford," one of the Abell family residences. His funeral took place from Guilford on the afternoon of 5 Dec 1875. Guilford was north of the present-day University Parkway, and it was demolished about 1914.
