Obituary

The death of Mrs. Eugenia Holmes occurred Monday night, May 17, at the home of her daughter Mrs. John Casey at Victoria Beach. She had made her home there for the past 25 years. Mrs. Holmes had been in failing health for the past 16 years. . . . Mrs. Holmes was 85 years of age. Born at Thorne's Cove, Annapolis County, May 18, 1863, she was the daughter of the late Daniel J. Riodan, formerly of Cork, Ireland, and Mrs. Riordan of Victoria Beach. She is survived by two daughters, Laura (Mrs. John Casey), who faithfully cared for her mother, and Elva (Mrs. Kenneth Thorne), both of Victoria Beach, and one son, Harvey, of Port Wade; thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Loran Conley of Saint John and Miss Martha Riordan of Victoria Beach. Her husband John Holmes and a son, Joseph, predeceased her a number of years ago. Funeral service was held on Thursday afternoon by the pastor Rev. E. A. Robertson officiating. The funeral service was held in Port Wade Baptist Church. . . . She was laid to rest in Port Wade Cemetery.
