He graduated in 1884 from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, was admitted to the bar and moved to Idaho to establish his practice in Boise City. Elected city attorney in 1887 and district attorney in 1888, he was a member of the constitutional convention that framed the State constitution in 1890. Elected on the Republican ticket, he served in the US House of Representatives from March 4, 1895 to March 3, 1897. Nominated for a seat on the State Supreme Court, he did not run in the 1896 election; however, he was not selected for the bench seat. He was reelected in 1898 and served an additional term in Congress, from March 4, 1899 to March 3, 1901. He then resumed his law practice in Boise. (bio by: Thom Painter)
