Ivyl Garnes Jr., age 69, of Perry, died on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at his home in Perry.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Crossroads Church in Perry. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 15, 2011, from 1 to 8 p.m., with family present from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Carris Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Highland Township Cemetery at Bayard, IA. Memorials may be given to Relay For Life Team Ivyl and may be left at the Funeral Home.


Ivyl Ellsworth Garnes Jr. was born on Oct. 7, 1941, in Perry, Iowa, to Ivyl Ellsworth and Delcie Gertrude (Beeson) Garnes. His family first lived in Yale, Iowa, and then moved to Perry where he attended school and graduated from Perry Community High School. He was united in marriage to Toshia South on June 1, 2002, at the First Christian Church in Perry. Ivyl worked at Osmundsons Manufacturing and later worked at the Wiese Corporation as a mechanical engineer.Ivyl was a member of the Crossroads Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He loved his family and enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and riding motorcycles.Ivyl was preceded in death by his parents, Ivyl Sr. and Delcie Garnes; two brothers, Oliver and Charles Cretsinger; and one sister, Dorothy Young. Survivors include his wife, Toshia Garnes, of Perry, Iowa; children, Angela (Ted) Wemhoff, of Columbus, Bill (Charla) Garnes, of Perry, Iowa, Kyler (Sara) South, of Coon Rapids, Iowa, Jimmy Rose and Cassandra Rose, of Perry, Iowa; his brother, Jerry (Billie Kestel) Garnes, of Perry, Iowa; his sister, Linda (George) Baer, of Madrid, Iowa; grandchildren, Wes, Wade and Whitney Wemhoff, Alex and Erica Ernst, Dakota, Brooke and Kendra Garnes, and Summer South; and great-grandchildren, Brayden and Baylee Garnes.
