Don Edwin Holverson, 78, passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, under the care of Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center with his family by his side.

Don was born May 9, 1932, in Idaho Falls, the second child of Jerry "Jigg" Preston and Florence May King Holverson. He attended schools in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1950, lettering in boxing and never missing a day of school or being tardy until high school.

Don married the love of his life, Virgie Joe Hodge, on Sept. 8, 1951, in the same home where he was born. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in March 1974.

Don served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.

Don was a drywaller by trade and then went to work for the City of Idaho Falls Sewer Department in 1974, where he always said he took crap from everyone. He worked up the ranks to superintendent of the Sewer Department, retiring in 1997.

Don, known to some as "Mr. Sage Lakes," became an avid golfer, enjoying many tee times with family and friends, having his final tee time at 5:21 pm. Saturday, Feb. 12, where we know he got his hole-in-one.

He enjoyed reading to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He took pride in all of the missions and military services performed by his family members. Besides golf, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Because of his exceptional craftsmanship, many family and friends called upon Don for his expertise in home building "repairs" and remodels. Most important to Don was his family. He always said, "Family first."

He is survived by his wife of 59 years; and his children, Don (Jane) Clip, Kurt (Jolene), Scott (Rhonda), Kay (Milt) Montague, Kandie (Colin) Howard, Lisa (Kenny) Nield and Josh (Dani); brothers, Virgil (Sue) and Terry (Maggie); sisters, Fern (Dyer) Stockton and Flora Jorgensen, all of the Idaho Falls area. Don is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, June, Bert and Ruben.

The family would like to thank the staff of EIRMC, especially Drs. Miller and Krell.

Funeral services will be under the direction of Heath Holverson (Don's grandson) and Wood Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Idaho Falls LDS North Stake Center at 955 Memorial Drive. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave., and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Thursday prior to services. Burial will be at Ririe-Shelton with military honors.
