Lois Robertson Bannister "Teacher Lois", Pocatello, Idaho, formerly of Vallejo, California, passed away, Sunday evening, February 13, 2011 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Bettie Bannister in Pocatello.
She was born May 27, 1919 in Mammoth Utah, to Charles and Ellenor Robertson. Her family moved to Buhl, Idaho when she was a young child. Her father passed away when she 15 so she and her mother moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to be near her sister and brother-in-law.
As a young woman she attended LDS Business School in Salt Lake City. In Salt Lake she met and married Wilfred Joseph Bannister. Soon after which, World War II began and they moved to Vallejo, California to work at the Naval ship yard.
Lois later received a degree in Early Childhood Education at Solano Jr. College, Vallejo, California. She taught at Vallejo Parent Nursery School for 15 years.
Fred and Lois were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions especially in the Oakland Temple. After Fred passed away, she moved to Pocatello to be with Charles and his family.
Lois is survived by three sons, Arthur (Bonnie) Bannister, Charles (Bettie) Bannister and Mark Bannister; ten grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Bannister; sister, Lily Tavey; brother, James Robertson; and her parents.
A celebration of Lois' life will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 2:00 pm in the Cornelison Funeral Chapel, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services in the funeral home Wednesday.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Skyview Memorial Lawn, 200 Rollingwood Dr., Vallejo, California. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 am in the Skyview Memorial Lawn Chapel Saturday prior to graveside services.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello.
