Michigan Governor. Educated at the Ferris Institute, he was clerk of the Michigan House of Representatives, in 1913 and was clerk of the Michigan State Senate, (1913-19). He also was the Deputy Secretary of State, (1919-23) and Michigan State Secretary, (1931-34). In 1934, he was elected as a Republican the 34th Governor of Michigan, serving until 1937. He was again elected as 36th Governor of Michigan, in 1939 and a little over two months into his term, he passed away at age 54. He was the only Michigan Governor to die in office.
