Hampden - Dorothy Alice Giles, 76, passed away peacefully at a Bangor Healthcare facility. Dorothy was born in Bangor, the daughter of Isaac E., and Madeline (Renouf) Staples.
Dorothy attended Brewer schools and worked at several area factories but most of all was a good mom and homemaker.
She enjoyed camping with her grandchildren, decorating for every holiday, dancing, canning vegetables from her husband Lew's garden, and was noted for making great pies. In the last few years she enjoyed trips to get fish chowder which was always a delight followed by ice cream. Dorothy was, also, a longtime member of the Goodwill Riders Snowmobile Club in Hampden and worked for many years preparing their monthly supper. Dorothy will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Lewis C. Giles, III, of Hampden, a son, Lewis C. Giles, IV, of Bangor, a daughter, Suzanne M. Giles and Eugene Leppizzi, of Victoria, Virginia, grandchildren, Jason Card of Greenville, Lewis C. Giles, V, of Bangor, and Audra Giles, of Bangor, a great-grand daughter, Jasmin Giles of Bangor, a sister, Helen (Staples) and Richard Bredesen of Overland Park, Kansas, brothers, Ralph and Elisabeth Staples of Bangor, Paul and Betty Staples of Bangor, brothers and sister-in-law, Robert and Jesse Giles of Newburgh, Frank and Renate Giles of Hampden, Florence (Giles) and Donald Allbritton of West Monroe, Louisiana, Lucille (Giles) and Robert Veinote of Newburgh, a special niece, Heather J. Staples of Bangor, a special aunt and uncle, Arthur and Roberta Staples of South Hope, as well as many other special nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, and brothers, Richard O. Staples, Robert E. Staples, and a sister, Carol Elizabeth Staples. Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett, director of chaplaincy services at Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiated.
