"Frances Mae Scobee of Greencastle died Thursday in Hickory Creek at Sunset Healthcare. She was 89.
Mrs. Scobee had been a homemaker and worked at Lane Bryant in Indianapolis before she married. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Home Economics Club, Friendship Club, Sierra Club, Indianapolis Art Museum and the Putnam County Humane Society. She was a 1940 graduate of Greencastle High School.
She was born Aug. 12, 1921, at Greencastle, to Frank DeVaney and Vertie (Cox) Nelson. She married William Henry Scobee on June 28, 1941. He died July 15, 1988.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Kay Scobee of Greencastle; a son, Steven Michael (Sherry L.) Scobee of Greencastle; two grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
A twin sister Frankie Cox and her stepfather James Frank "John Ike" Nelson also are deceased.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, Greencastle, with the Rev. Randy McNeely officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
