Birth: Jul. 7, 1893
Cherokee County
Kansas, USA
Death: Oct., 1975
Cherokee County
Kansas, USA

Mamie's parents were Albert R. and Mary E. (McKee)Nash.

Both James M. Imel and Mamie F. Nash were residing at Faulkner, Cherokee County, Kansas at the time of their marriage. He was aged 22 and she was aged 24. They were married by the Probate Judge, a Mr. J. Ellis.

Jim and Mamie made their home about one mile west of Faulkner all their lives, except for a two to three year period when they moved to Richmond, Califormia. There Jim worked in the shipyards as a welder from 1942-1944 during the WWII. They returned home after the war to their farm home and lived until Jim died.

Jim and Mamie were active in church life for many years; their marriage was one of closeness and caring. Mamie was one of the early school teachers in Cherokee County, teaching for a number of years in the rural schoolhouses of the area. She taught at the No. One School, Lowell township, Cherokee county, Kansas from 1911-1912. She taught at Mt. Pleasant School, Neosho township, Cherokee county, Kansas from 1913-1915 and from 1916-1917. She also taught at the Fairview School, Neosho township from 1915-1916.

Mamie Frances Imel, a former teacher, died at about 5 am Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Dale (Mary Glee) Conard, on Route 1, Chetopa, Kansas. Mrs. Imel was 82 and had been ill for several years.

Survivors include her five daughters; Carol Maxwell, Clara Belle Johnson, Mary Glee Conard, Jamesine Johnson and Hilma Moscou; two sisters, Mrs. Orpha McPherson of Chetopa and Mrs. Clara Westervelt of Kansas City; one brother, Howard Nash of Chetopa; 18 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. One daughter Wilma died in March 1970. One brother and two sisters also are deceased.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Hammon-McGavran Funeral Home in Oswego. The Rev. Gayle Lucian officiated and burial was in North Edna Cemetery.
