Funeral Services were held Saturday, April 13, 2002 at Saulters-Moore Funeral Homes Chapel for Mr. Walter J. Bass, age 86, of Prentiss, who died at his residence on April 11. Rev. Stan Cheatham and Rev. Darren Wigington officiated. Interment followed in the Whitesand Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jute Polk, Buddy Bass, Gerald Bass, Johnnie Luttrell, Ricky Stephens and Brad Myers.

Mr. Bass was a native of Jefferson Davis County, the son of Estus Bass and Mable Walker Bass. He was a member of Whitesand Baptist Church. He owned the Triangle Cafe in Prentiss for 31 years and owned Smith County Lime Plant for 2 years and also was a farmer. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Bass of Prentiss, one daughter, Linda Langston of Prentiss, one son Jacky Bass of Prentiss, three grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
