Donald R. Andrist, 87, of Clarkston went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 14, 2004. He was living at the Idaho Veterans Home in Lewiston, and passed away from the effects of Alzheimer's disease.

Donald was born July 10, 1916, in Crookston, Minn., to John Jacob and Marianne Knutson Andrist. He spent his childhood in Crookston with his brothers, Ralph and Sidney and sisters, Bluebell and May. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Don married Eudell Charboneau in 1936 in Minneapolis. They lived in Crookston for several years and moved to Illinois, where he worked at Caterpillar Equipment in Peoria. They moved to Rochelle, and he worked for Del Monte Corp. Eudell and Don had three children. Eudell passed away in 1971. Don married Florence "Flossie" Butler Johnson in 1973 in Rockford. They moved to Clarkston in 1993 to be closer to Don's stepdaughter, Jan, and to get away from the harsh, Illinois winters. Don loved to golf, and was a member of Clarkston Masonic Lodge 143, Calam Shriners of Lewiston, Lewiston-Clarkston Moose Lodge and United Methodist Church of Clarkston.

He is survived by his wife, Flossie of Clarkston; son, Richard (Janet) Andrist of Rochelle; daughter, Sue (Ray) Yowell of Newbury, Mo.; stepdaughter, Jan (James) Beirl of Clarkston; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph of Lynnwood, Wash.; nieces and nephews.

Don was predeceased by parents; a brother and two sisters; and son, Roger Andrist.

Cremation has taken place. The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, in United Methodist Church, Clarkston, with Pastor Barry Moffett officiating. Dinner will be served after the service. Don's ashes will be sent to Rockford for final inurnment at Scandinavian Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home, Lewiston, Idaho. The family suggests memorial donations to: United Methodist Church, Box 183, Clarkston, WA 99403.
