Johnnie passed away in his Santa Cruz home after a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by his cherished wife Elma Duran; son Ben Quintana; grandchildren: Lena Lujan and Baby Chris Gallegos; parents Jose and Simmie Duran; grandparents who raised him, Macario Quintana and Gregoria Borrego de Quintana.

Johnnie was survived by his daughters; brother, Joseph Duran (wife Celine) of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives & friends.

Johnnie retired from the New Mexico Department of Transportation as a Physical Plant Manager in 1990. His hobbies were fishing, hunting and gardening.

Public visitation and wake service were on February 11, 2011 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Mass of Christian Burial was on February 12, 2011 at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Caņada. Pallbearers: Chris Duran, Carlos Batts, Pernell Herrera, Arthur Herrera, Joseph Paul Avila and Edward Avila. Honorary pallbearer was Julian Herrera.
