Walter was the son of Arunah Shepherdson Abell, Esq., (10 Aug 1806 - 19 Apr 1888) and Mary (Fox) Campbell Abell (c.1817 - 16 Feb 1859), who married on 23 Dec 1838.
Walter [1st] married Sally (Sisson) Abell. She was the daughter of Hugh Sisson, of Baltimore, Maryland. He [2nd] married Philomena M. (Bogue) Abell on 6 June 1889. She was the daughter of Henry Bogue.
Walter died at his home at 223 West Monument Street.
