David Newton, 61, died Aug. 26 at Hospice Savannah.
He was born in Claxton and was reared at Bethesda Home for Boys. He graduated from Savannah High School and attended Armstrong State College.
He was a former vice president of operations at Southland Oil Co. and founder and owner of Atlantic Marine Surveying Inc.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Jeanne Hudson Newton of Savannah; two sons, Eric and Randall Newton, both of Savannah; four stepchildren, Robert S. Hanson Jr., Laura H. Filson and Patricia H. Mulherin, all of Savannah, and Michael J. Hanson of Raleigh, N.C.; his mother, Eloise Chapman of Savannah; and two brothers, Jack and Donald Newton, both of Chattanooga, Tenn.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
