Nora Margaret Kotnek, 81 of rural Cherokee, Ks passed away at 3:15 am, February 8, 2011 at Landmark Hospital in Joplin, MO.

She was born to Pete and Marguerite (O'Malley) Bernardi on April 13, 1929 in Weir, KS.

She attended West Mineral School, after graduation she accepted the Secretarial Position for West Mineral, and later Southeast High School. She enjoyed this position for many years, leaving to stay at home with their daughter and assist her husband on the farm.

On November 20, 1951, she was united in marriage to Matt Kotnek at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Scammon, KS. In the 53 years they were married they were not only the ideal couple, but had the perfect partnership as well. A shining example of working together and helping others, they were role models for many.

She was a longtime member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society. Even after health issues prevented her from attending mass regularly, she kept a strong faith. Additional memberships were held at the Farmers Co-Op of Columbus, McCune Farmers Co-Op, Producers Co-Op of Girard and the AARP.

Nora was a lifelong homemaker, as well as a partner in the family farm operation. In life and in death she showed courage, faith, and love to all. She was a role model to many, including her family.

Nora and her granddaughter shared an extremely close relationship, as Amy helped her stay in her own home by assisting in much of her care.

Survivors include one daughter Margaret Radlund of rural Scammon; three grandchildren Matthew John Ross, 22, Amy Marie Ross, 18, and Adam James Radlund, 6.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Marguerite Bernardi, her husband, Matt Kotnek, and her grandparents, Felix and Rosina Bernardi, and John J. and Nora O'Malley.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am, Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Scammon with Fr. Larry Parker as Celebrant.

Burial will follow in the St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 6:30 pm to 8 pm at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir, where the Parish rosary will be recited at 7 pm.

Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Mercy Foundation to be used at St. John's Maude Norton Memorial Hospital and/or St. Bridget's Altar Society. These may be left at or mailed to the funeral home. Services and arrangements by the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Weir.
