MRS. JAMES PRIOR
Minnie Emily Jagger, daughter of Joseph and Catherine Jagger, was born January 20, 1866 at Kingston Springs, Tennessee and passed away March 19, 1941 at her home in Minneapolis, Kansas.
At the time of her birth, her father was an officer in the United States Army. When her father obtained his discharge from the army, the family immigrated by river boats to Leavenworth, Kansas. There they remained until her father had located a homestead. They set out by covered wagon from Leavenworth in May. 1866 and arrived at the post office of Ayersburg, where Lindsey is now located, in June. In August they moved to their homestead in Blaine Township. This homestead has been the family home ever since. With her parents she endured the hardships incident to pioneer life when there were no bridges and the nearest trading point was Junction City.
She had devoted her life principally to the profession of teaching. She taught in the grade schools of Ottawa county until her retirement in 1925, at which time she moved to Minneapolis where she has since resided. In these later years she received a great deal of satisfaction from the memories of the many pupils she had taught in the various schools she had served.
She was a member of the Methodist church of Minneapolis. She took a very active part in all church activities as long as her health permitted.
In 1887 she was married to Wesley Wilson. To this union one daughter was born, now Mrs. Madge Bisbey. In 1905 she was married to James Prior, who survives her and who has devotedly cared for her during her long illness. Two brothers, Sidney and George, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband James Prior; her daughter, Mrs. Madge Bisbey, four grandchildren, Mrs. June Darling of Long Beach, California; Mrs. Dorothy Clanton of Salina; Betty and Donald Bisbey; one great granddaughter, Shirley Clanton; one brother, Fred Jagger, who resided on the old family homestead; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the R.S. Todd Funeral Home, Rev. Will Lambertson of Lindsborg conducting. Burial was in Highland cemetery. - Information furnished by Cheryl White
