John S Fox (1851-1922) born Canajoharie, Montgomery, NY; son of Oliver G and Sarah Coleman Fox. Married 1871 to Amanda Furman born Aug 1849 in Canajoharie, Montgomery, NY. daughter to Walter King Furman (1822-1896) and Lucy M BLack (1823-?). and John had three children, Lelia Fox born 1873 m. William West; Lucy Fox born 1875 m. George C Steele and Frederick Furman Fox born 1884-1951 m. Agnes Martin. Fred F Fox former sherrif of Otsego County.
"John Samuel Fox was found dead in bed Tuesday morning at his summer home on Canadarago Lake, near Richfield Springs. He had a severe illness last fall but had partially recovered and was in his customary health the preceding evening. Doctors who were called ascribe death due to a heart ailment. Mr. Fox was born at Sprout Brook seventy-two years ago, and in 1870 he married Miss Amanda Furmin. Their early married life was spent at Sharon Springs, where Mr. Fox was ticket agent for a number of years. They removed to Richfield about thirty-five years ago. The deceased for many years traveled for different shoe companies. During the last year he had traveled for the Leach Shoe Company of Rochester. For several years he owned a shoe store in Richfield Springs ... His wife died in September, 1914. He leaves three children, Mrs. William W. West of Richfield Springs, Mrs. George C. Steele of Herkimer and son, Fred F. Fox and a grandson, Frederick Martin Fox of Richfield Springs, and two brothers, Charles D. and George of Sprout Brook The funeral was held in the First Presbyterian Church at 2 o'clock, standard time, Thursday afternoon. The interment was in Fort Plain. Mr. Fox was a genial, hospitable man, who was esteemed by all who knew him and his death will be deeply mourned.
