Obituary found in THE UNION newspaper dated 14 May 1886:
Daniel Schwartz, son of Abraham and Christina (Zehner) Schwartz, was born November 20th 1814, in West Penn, Schuylkill County, Penn and departed this life May 3rd, 1886 at 6 o'clock a.m. He was consecrated to the Lord in holy baptism, by his parents in infancy. Later, at the age of 18 years, after a course of instruction in the doctrines of the church, he was confirmed by Rev. Zuellig, as a member of the Reformed Church in West Penn, Pa.
He entered the state of holy matrimony with Miss Elizabeth Stillwagon in April 1836 (ed note: maybe a date error here). Three weeks later he came with his young wife and parents (ed note: Abraham and Christina Zehner Swartz) to Ohio locating in Richland County. In the year 1854, 32 years ago, he came to Wyandot County, settling on the place adjoining the Reformed Church in Pitt Township, where he continued to live until a short time ago, when he went to visit his son John, in Van Wert County.
His marriage union was blessed with twelve children, three sons and nine daughters who all grew to young man and womanhood. His aged companion, Mother Schwartz, died Feb 27, 1883 , thus the aged couple are now lying side by side in the beautiful city of the dead, awaiting the resurrection morning. The husband and wife lived happily together for a period of 47 years. Shortly after the demise of his consort, the deceased began failing in health caused by heart disease, which frequently subjected him to spells of suffocation.
Since the death of his companion he made his home with his daughter Mrs. Hamilton ( ed note: Mary A. Swartz Hamilton b:1841), spending the most of his time in reading the Bible and prayer book,. He was conscious of his precarious condition and expected to die suddenly, but said he wanted to be prepared for the better world. He realized his weaknesses and failings, but deeply regretted them and placed his trust in the merciful Redeemer.
He took communion February last at his home in Pitt Township. He leaves 10 children, 32 grandchildren, and one great grand child, besides four sisters and three brothers, to mourn his sudden departure.
His death and burial was duly chronicled in last week's issue of "The Union." The thanks of the family are herewith extended to the friends and neighbors for their sympathy and help during the sickness and funeral obsequies.
