|Birth: ||Sep., 1861|
Fred was one of 3 children born to William F. Koehler/Keller and his 1st wife, Louise (Bartel). His father changed the spelling of his last name to "Keller" ("Koehler" is pronounced "Keller").
After Fred's mother died he & his sister & brother went to live with different family friends. Their father enlisted as a Private on Aug. 15, 1862, in the Union, Company C, 1st Cavalry Regiment of Wisconsin.
His father remarried on 12/29/1861, to Charlotte H. (Fink).
William F. Keller & his 2nd wife had 9 children together.
Statement made by A.W. Goodwin, Special Examiner, in the case of William F. Keller's Civil War pension:
"The son, Fred, died some years ago, and I learned that his widow was living in Aurora, Nebraska, but had remarried and I was unable to learn her present name. Fred married her in Hamilton County, Nebraska, and she was from Pennsylvania, so it would be doubtful if she could throw any further light on to the fact of the death of the former wife (Louise Bartel) of the soldier (William F. Keller), and it would be absolutely necessary to see Minnie (Keller) Sette, who could, in all probability, clear up the whole thing. I lost no more time in trying to locate Fred Keller's widow."
Statement made by John Keller, Fred Keller's half-brother, in the case of William F. Keller's Civil War pension;
"Fred, my half-brother, died of typhoid fever near Hoisington, Kansas."
