Services for Dr. John Turner Bynum, 79, pioneer West Texas physician, were held in Hamlin Baptist Church. Dr. Bynum received his medical education in Memphis, Tennessee, and came to Texas in 1890, practicing for a year with his uncle, Dr. Mark Bynum in Brownwood. He went to London, Texas where he met and married Miss Meddie Trimble on 29 June 1892. The couple moved to Jones County in 1897, settling first in Nienda. They moved to McCaulley in 1905 and to Hamlin in 1919. Dr. Bynum retired in 1941 due to his health and lived in Dallas until he and his wife moved to Sweetwater in 1947. Services were officiated by Rev. Henry Littleton of Lueders, formerly of Hamlin.

Survived by his wife; five daughters - Mrs. O.H. Berry, Mrs. D.L. Nickless, Mrs. R.B. Wade, Mrs. Ann Weakly, Mrs. A.R. Edwards; a bother; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Turner Bynum, who practiced with him for years in Hamlin.
