Bettie Bonnett
Died May 14, 1905
Age 62 yrs."
According to Online Family Trees, this is Nancy Elizabeth "Betty" Cockrell, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Collie Cockrell. Dr. E. Russ Williams in his book "Founding Families of the Ouachita Valley" disagrees, and states she was the daughter of John and Sarah D. Dickerson Cockrell. She married William Franklin Bonnette, probably in Jackson parish around 1875. According to Dr. Williams' book, they were the parents of John Thomas, William, Ira Dew, Eleanor and Novie. The 1900 Census shows John T., Willie E., Arnie, and Elmer I. Nancy states she was the mother of nine, but only 5 are still living. Her birthdate was listed as "Un[known]".
An 11 year old son Ira D. is on the 1910 census, and by that time Nancy states she was the mother of 9 and only 4 are alive.
A Findagrave user sent the following: "I saw where the bio for #65323480 includes information from Dr. Williams' book (which I wish I had access to) claiming Nancy E Cockrell Bonnett was the daughter of John Cockrell & Sarah Dickerson. I had not been aware of that claim, but Nancy E was born 1852 or 1853 (gravestone says 62 y.o. at time of death in 1915, various census put YOB between 1852 and 1854), and John Cockrell did not marry Sarah Dickerson until Sep 10 1855, long after Nancy E had been born.
Also, the 1900 census shows Nancy E Bonnett hosting her siblings, Larkin Cockrell and Laura Cockrell, who were also children of Thomas F. Cockrell & Sarah Collie. Family legend holds that Nancy E played the role of "big sister" to her younger siblings who would live with her off and on when they had no where else to go."
