In 1923 the great-grandaughter of Hannah Shelton Bray, Lura Ballard Nordyke wrote a letter stating Hannah told her daughter she was born in 1790 and in 1794 when she was 4 years old her parents Thomas and Mary Jameson Shelton left Albemarle County, Virginia crossed the Natural Bridge in Virginia, moving to Madison County, Kentucky where Thomas' first cousin Stephen English and Jacob Stephens settled earlier.
