Crockett J. "CJ" Blankenship, 86, of Salem, VA, entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 4, 2011. He retired in 1990 from the city of Salem, after 29 years of faithful service. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy U. Blankenship. CJ is survived by three brothers, Woody, Mark and Theodore; and two sisters, Mary Melton and Texanna Herndon. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Melvin & Mary Blankenship, Phyllis & Ralph Reese, Patricia & Joe Worrell, Dorothy & Charles Dickerson, and Donald & Nancy Blankenship. Surviving grandchildren are Missy Smith, Wayne Blankenship, Brian Blankenship, Eric Looney, Sara Blankenship, Carol Sue Walker, Lorrie Reese, Dana Tatum, Darrell Worrell, Chuck Dickerson, Tracey Blankenship, Kasey Clark, Josh Blankenship and Donnie Blankenship Jr. CJ is also survived by 25 great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. CJ wanted us to say a special thank you to Mary Blankenship, his faithful caregiver, who visited and took special care of him every day. CJ was a very loving and caring father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 7, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem, Va., and funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Joe Horbath officiating. Interment will be conducted on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. A fellowship will follow afterwards at the home of Melvin Blankenship. Arrangements by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem.
