Dr. Buckner was well known in Watseka and throughout Iroquois County. He was one of the first to own a cottage at Timberlawn, where his family enjoyed summer recreation. He owned and showed saddle horses over a large area. He was a member of the Masonic lodge, Rotary club, and the Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War I.
Born at West Union, Ill., March 2, 1884, he was the son of Rev. F. M. and Ellen Plank Buckner. His childhood was spent in Clark County, where he later taught school, before attending medical school at the old Chicago Medical College, now a part of Loyola University. He was married in June, 1913 to Anna Douglas at Gilman.
Surviving are the widow; two sons, Dr. Ryland A. Buckner and Roger A. Buckner, both of Gilman; several nieces and nephews; and a cousin, Dr. W. F. Buckner of Watseka.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Gilman Methodist Church. The American Legion conducted rites. Burial was in the Gilman cemetery, under the direction of the Paul Danforth Funeral Home, Roberts.
