Marcus Christopher Funk, age 83, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 1997 at his home. He resided at 2387 East Lynwood Drive (2300 South) in the Foothill neighborhood of Salt Lake City, Utah at the time of his death.

Born December 31, 1913 in Richmond, Utah to James W. and Lucy A. Merrill Funk, he was married for over fifty-eight years to Ruth Hardy Funk. His life was devoted to his wife and family of four children, nineteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren to whom he gave constant love and security.

Dr. Funk graduated from North Cache High in 1931, received his BA degree from the University of Utah in 1935, where he served as president of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and later received his DDS degree from Northwestern Univesity in 1942, where he was elected to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society.

He served as the dental officer aboard the USS Louisville in the Pacific during World War II and retired after twenty years in the naval reserve as a Lt. Commander. He practiced dentistry for forty-three years in Salt Lake City, serving as president of the Salt Lake District Dental Society and later as president of the Utah State Dental Association in 1957-1958.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Mark served as Young Men's president, Teachers Quorum advisor, Aaronic Priesthood secretary, and on the High Council of the Parleys' Stake. Most treasured by him were the fifteen years of service as a guide on Temple Square.

He is survived by his wife; children: Mrs. Nancy Pulsipher, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Allyson Gurney, Salt Lake City; Judd Funk, Los Angeles; Mrs. Jennie Jo Emery, Providence; sister: Mrs. Edith Shepherd, Salt Lake City; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 1997 at 12:00 p.m. in the Parley's Third Ward Chapel, 2615 East Stringham Avenue. Friends may call at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, on Friday, June 27, 1997 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and prior to the services at the church on Saturday from 10:30-11:45 a.m.
Burial will be in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East).
