John Douglas Sterrett, Sr. completed high school in Lexington, Rockbridge County, Virginia, USA. John owned and operated a dairy farm and retail milk delivery service called "Sterrett's Dairy". Also he was involved in limited real estate having developed Meadowview Sub-Division with some residential development.

John Douglas Sterrett, 82, of Rt. 5 Lexington died Tuesday at the Stonewall Jackson Extended Care Facility.
Born Feb. 19, 1889 in Rockbridge County, he was the son of the late Ira Franklin Sterrett adn Isabel Dunlap MacKey Sterrett.
Mr. Sterrett was a member of the Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church and served as elder and elder emeritus in the church for 63 years. He was one of the organizers and past president of the Rockbridge Farmers Cooperative. Mr. Sterrett was a former dairy farmer.
Mr. Sterrett developed the Meadowview subdivision. He was chairman of the Rockbridge County Planning Commission from Jan.1 1959 to Jan. 1 1962.
A former Rotarian, he was past president of the Rockbridge Mutual Fire Insurance Co.
Surviving are two sons, John D. Sterrett, Jr. of Wytheville and James Robert Sterrett of Hampton; a sister Mrs. Mattie Reid Parkins of Newark, Del; five grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
The Rev. John Stanley and the Rev. William Ramkey will conduct a funeral service tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Timber Ridge "Old Stone" Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Timber Ridge "Old Stone" Presbyterian Church Cemetery."

John Douglas Sterrett, Sr., 82, of Rt. 5, Lexington, died Tuesday in a Lexington nursing home.
Surviving are two sons, John D. Sterrett, Jr., Wytheville, James Robert Sterrett, Hampton; a sister Mrs. Mattie Reid Parkins, Newark, Del.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Timber Ridge Old Stone Presbyterian Church, Rt. 5 Lexington, with burial in the church cemetery.
The family suggests that memorial gifts may be made to a favorite charity.
