A Civil War veteran along with his 3 older brothers, he is written about in D Reid Ross' book, "Lincoln's Veteran Volunteers Win the War - The Hudson Valley's Ross Brothers and the Union's Fight for Emancipation". Pvt. John Ross was injured during fighting as the union army advanced on Savannah, Georgia in December, 1864. John suffered a partial hearing loss from shells bursting over his head. -p.312 from D. Reid Ross' book above. He died of Typhoid fever in 1893.
