The ninth child of Charles and Martha Lents Strange was Earl, born March 17, 1895. Earl was a teacher and store owner. With his brother Roscoe, Earl operated the store at the Bramble, IN cross-roads for many years. Many members of the St Joseph Catholic Church remember buying candy bars and Royal Crown Cola from Uncle Earl. Going over to the store after Mass at St Joseph's was an essential part of Sunday morning. What could be done at the store, depended on whether or not you could wrangle a few pennies or even a nickel from your dad. Later, Earl built two stores at Bramble on Route 45.
At the age of 60, in 1955, he married Susan "Jane" Crane Padgett. She had been a widow for several years. Uncle Earl was my paternal grand uncle and Grandma Jane was my maternal grandmother. They both grew up in Daviess County, IN. Grandma and uncle Earl continued operating the grocery store in Bramble. Uncle Earl attended daily Mass at St Joseph.
In 1957, Jane and Earl moved to Lafayette, In after buying a small farm there. Earl became sick with pneumonia in Jan 1958 and died very suddenly. His death was a shock to all the family. He was a holy man, deeply admired and loved by his family.
