Mary Ellen Miles Strange (1803-1853) was a native of Kentucky like her husband, William Ambrose. They married Nov 24, 1834 in Martin County, IN. She was six years his elder. They were the parents of eight children.

William and Mary Ellen were of the Catholic faith. In the book "A Strange Family History, it states that Mary Ellen was kin to Pius Miles, the first bishop of the diocese of Nashville. An Irish priest, Father Patrick Murphy, built the first St Joseph Church at Miles Settlement in 1853.

According to the book "A Strange History" Mary Ellen was probably buried in St Mary's Cemetery, Daviess County, IN.
At the time of her death, the St Joseph Cemetery probably was not established.
