Awards: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal.∼Steve went to Metamora High School, was in my 1966 graduation class, I went right into the Navy for next 4 years. Steve joined the Army and went to Vietnam and was KIA on May 1st, 1969, same day that I arrived in country. I did not know that until I received a letter from my mother, she sent a clip from the Metamora news paper and informed me that he had been KIA. I was with U S Navy Special Warfare at that time on Cambodian border with a whole year to go!
Steve was just a wonderful spirit, and good friend in High School, I still visit his grave at least once every year. As commander of Spring Bay Legion Post now, always make sure he and all the Veterans there are Honored. 'That We Never Forget' We keep the name and memory alive. His mother is now there along with him! RIP
As General Patton said: 'We should not mourn the loss, but thank GOD that such men lived'
