My grandpa, this is how I always remember him, working in the garden. He retired as truck driver in late 1950's. But he was always active, a volunteer fireman in Earlimart, Ca. and worked in the auto salvage and fruit and vegetable industries.
Grandpa (Lucien) had told me his parents immigrated to the US when they were each 14 but had not met until they were here.
"I have a lot of info about the Escalle family. I was looking at the cemetery info and noticed the "Porter" name. I have some old photos of the Porter family in my collection. I was just wondering if Susan Porter or her relatives were in the photos. The tombstone, A Escalle is the mother's. She went by Augustine Marie Escalle or just Marie. The name Augustine was written on her husband's death certificate. She died in her thirties of breast cancer. She left five children, Louise, Alfred, Lucien, Frank, and Emile. The gravestone with E Escalle is for Emile Escalle who died at the age of 12 in a farming accident. My father-in-law, Frank, is also at the North Kern Cemetery in Delano. His son, Jimmy L. Escalle, has a marker next to his. He was listed missing-in-action in Korea and declared dead a year later. Have a great day !" above info furnished by Jean Escalle
