Rosary will be recited by Nene Espinoza at 9 a.m. Feb. 5, followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine. Msgr. David Fierro of St. Matthew Parish in El Paso will preside. Burial will be at Holy Angels Cemetery directed by Rosewood Funeral Chapel of Victoria.
Berta was born June 26, 1931, in Alpine to Juanita Gallegos Valadez and Tomas C. Valadez. She moved to Alvin in the 1970s and retired from Alvin Independent School District after 25 years of service. She was a parishioner of St. John Catholic Church in Alvin for 33 years. She was a member of a bowling team and competed in several State Championship Bowling Tournaments. In retirement, Berta enjoyed visiting the Senior Center, bringing joy and laughter to many friends, her family said.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Roberto "Beto" Valadez Sr., Manuel "Lito" Valadez, Luis "Wicho" Valadez and Jose G. Valadez; and two sisters, Maria Fierro Jojola and Sister Maria Asuncion.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Daniel Fierro Ogas; one son, Daniel V. Ogas; one daughter, Ana Cecilia Reyes and husband Michael of Victoria; grandchildren Amanda Danielle Ogas, Erick Dylan Ogas, Dominic Michael Cavazos and Michael Sean Reyes; great-grandson Arturo Daniel Vega; three sisters, Ofelia Valadez of Alpine, Concepcion "Concha" Rodriquez of Fort Stockton and Leonor Valadez of El Paso; and two brothers, Tomas Valadez Jr. of Las Cruces, N.M., and Federico Valadez of Westchester, Va.
