Mr. John H. Gephart, 89, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville.

Mr. Gephart was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church at South Williamsport.

Born Nov. 12, 1921, at South Williamsport, he was the son of the late Lloyd E. and Margaret Hammer Gephart.

John was a graduate of the South Williamsport High School Class of 1939. He joined the U.S. Navy and served his country honorably from 1942 to 1945. Upon discharge from the Navy, he became an electrician and was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local No. 812

He married Ruth I. Shires of Hughesville, Pa., on April 18, 1948. They shared 62 years of marriage together until his death.

John enjoyed being outdoors and tending both his flower and vegetable gardens.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth I. Gephart of Montoursville; his daughter and son-in-law, Jane E. and her husband, Jack Pelepako of Mahopac, N.Y.; his two sons, William L. Gephart of Wilkes-Barre, Pa. and Larry G. Gephart and his wife, Susan Gephart of Kingston, N.Y.; his five grandchildren and his six great-grandchildren. John is also survived by his one brother, Clifford Gephart of Corinth, Miss.; and his three sisters, Marion and her husband, Ernest Eakin of South Williamsport, Margaret and her husband, Harry McClain of Cogan Station, and Emily and her husband, Paul Heivly of Montoursville, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda M. Shaffer; his granddaughter, Michelle Shaffer; his three brothers, Delmont, Paul and Ralph Gephart; and his sister, Lois Gephart.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 324 S. Howard St., South Williamsport. His pastor, Rev. Maurice C. Frontz, III, will officiate. Interment will be in East Wildwood Cemetery. Committal services will be held in the Chapel of Wildwood Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.

The family invites relatives and friends to attend the visitation at 12 noon on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at Messiah Lutheran Church. The family welcomes floral tributes.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Charles M. Noll Funeral Home, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport.
