Alvin Holgar Petersen, the youngest son of Thomas Christian and Dagmar Anderson Petersen, was born Oct. 2. 1919, on a farm near Hardy. He died Tuesday, July 19, in the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, at the age of 68 years, 9 months and 17 days. He grew up in the Hardy community where he received his education while attending the Miller School and then graduated from Hardy High School with the class of 1937. May 25,1943, he was united in marriage with Virginia E. McGowan at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hardy. This union was blessed with two children, Carol and Rodney. They lived and farmed in the Hardy area until they moved to the Republic community in 1946. He was engaged in farm- ing until 1959, when he began working for Republic Grain Company and remained in the grain business until his retirement in 1984. Petersen was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hardy, and was a lifelong member. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, No.123, A.F., and A.M., Republic, and the Scottish Rite and Isis Shrine Temple, Salina. Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Elna Mesloh. Survivors are his wife, Virginia; daughter Mrs. James Levendofsky(Carol), Belleville; son, Rod Petersen, Shawnee, Kan.; four grandchildren, Christie and Dane Petersen and Scott and Kay Levendofsky: sister, Mrs. Dean McGowan (Viola) , Superior; brother, Harvey Petersen, Superior; and many other relatives. The funeral was Thursday, July 21, from the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hardy, with the Rev. Gary Veit officiating. Interment with Masonic graveside rites was in Lake Cemetery, Republic. The Williams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Superior Express July 28, 1988.
