Mrs. Josephine Beatrice Baker 1971 Bridgewater Bulletin

Mrs. Josephine Beatrice Baker of 233 Pleasant Street, Dartmouth, passed into eternal rest at the Halifax Infirmary on Tuesday evening, November 16, 1971, at the age of 53 years.

Although known to be seriously ill for several months, her early death is a great shock to her family.

Possessed of a retiring and quiet disposition, linked with sterling qualities, her kindness and thoughtfulness for others will be deeply missed by those who came within her wide circle of friends.

Born in Midville Branch in 1918, she was the youngest daughter of the late Perley and Minnie (Smith) Silver. Her mother predeceased her by six months.

She leaves a sorrowing husband, Burton; one son, Byron; a daughter, Joanne (Mrs. William Boylan), Dartmouth; and two small grandchildren; sisters, Jewelle (Mrs. Nathan Lohnes), Upper Northfield; Helen (Mrs. Leonard Casey), Halifax; brother, Joseph, West Northfield; also two aunts and an uncle, Mrs. Ruth Shelton, Miss Beatrice Silver, and Ralph Silver of Watertown, Mass.

She was an active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Dartmouth.

The largely attended memorial service was held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Bridgewater, on November 19, 1971, at 2 p., with her pastor, Rev. R.E. Rock officiating. The choir which was in attendance led in the singing of the well known hymns,"God Moves in a Mysterious Way" and "What a Friend."

There were present members of St. John Ambulance Brigade, Dartmouth Division, of which she was a valued member, and of Atlantic Rebecca Lodge No. 52 which held a service the evening before.

Pallbearers were four cousins of the deceased, Robert Smith, Herbert Mailman, Lester Smith, and Albert Smith. Interment was in the Midville Branch Cemetery.

With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
