| Birth: | unknown | | Death: | 61 | Queen of the Icenii (an East Anglian Celtic tribe), anti-Roman and burner and sacker of London. Widow of Prasutagus, scourge of the occupying Romans, feminist icon, sacked Camulodunum (Colchester), Verulamium (St.Albans) and Londinium (London). Was eventually defeated and finally took her own life in preference to falling into Roman hands. The village of Battle Bridge is said by some to be the site of the last battle between Queen Boadicea and the Roman general Caius Suetonius Paulinus. On losing the battle, the queen and her three daughters are said to have taken poison. In 1851/2, King's Cross Station was built on the site of Battle Bridge and the queen is said to lay beneath this platform. Others, however, claim that Battle Bridge was a corruption of 'Broad Ford Bridge' and that the queen is buried on Parliament Hill, Hampstead or in Suffolk.
