Sand Springs- Nellie (Cochran) Kirby, 94, retired Hissom Memorial Center laundry supervisor, died Saturday. Services pending. Mobley-Dodson. (Tulsa World)

Nellie Kirby, a long-time resident of Sand Springs, passed into the presence of her Lord in Tulsa on Saturday, January 29, 2011. She was one of ten children born to George Cochran and Lizzie Mae (Wright) Cochran. Nellie was born in Chouteau, OK on February 13, 1916. She had worked at Hissom Memorial Center as laundry supervisor prior to her retirement. She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church for many years. Nellie was known as a skilled quiltmaker.

She is survived by her son James Kirby and his wife Evelyn, two grandsons, David Kirby of New York and Gary Kirby of Tulsa. In addition, she is survived by one of her five brothers, Jack Cochran of Wagoner, OK. Preceding her in death were her parents, four brothers, and four sisters.

Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 31st and Thursday, February 3rd. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 4, 2011 in the Mobley-Dodson Chapel with Dr. Kent Choate officiating. (PLEASE NOTE-THIS IS A CHANGE FROM THE ORIGINAL ARRANGEMENTS)
