James Alexander Reynolds, born in Lawrence County, Indiana, October 14, 1843 and Cinderella Ross, born in Lawrence County, Indiana, March 18, 1850, were married September 17, 1867 in Bedford, Indiana. Shortly after their marriage they came to Iowa with his brother, R. H. and family, making the trip across the country in a covered wagon. They settled south of Elliott, Iowa.
In 1879, James and family moved to Elliott and daughter Mabel was the first girl child born in Elliott after its incorporation. She was born February 17, 1880.
Mr. Reynolds was a carpenter and served as postmaster 1893 to 1897 during the Cleveland Administration.
Mr. Reynolds served with Company G., Indiana Volunteers for the duration of the war before coming to Iowa.
They were parents of eight children, W. T, Lizzie (Cramer), Mary (Saint), Mabel (Kinney), Leona (Malmberg, Velander), Henry, Pearl (Weathersby), and Nelle. Mr. and Mr.s Reynolds and children were members of the Church of Christ in Elliott.
