"Mrs. Emma G. Thornton, 69, former resident of Carsonville, died Sunday, July 16, in the home of her son at 1203 Myrtle St., Port Huron, after a long illness.
She is survived by two sons, Guy J. and Corliss N., both of Port Huron; a daughter, Mrs. Charles V. Carter, Carsonville; two brothers, William J. Grant, Oscoda, and George E. Grant, Carsonville; and four sisters, Mrs. Vina Boa and Mrs. Myra Schlappi, both of Battle Creek, Mrs. James Shook, Marlette, and Mrs. Arthur Kearns, Croswell; also seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the residence at Port Huron. Rev. Eastman, pastor of the Mennonite church officiated. Burial was in Washington cemetery.
Mrs. Thornton was born in Perth county, Canada, Feb. 26, 1864. She came with her parents to this country when a small child. She was married Oct. 3, 1883, to Nelson H. Thornton, who died in 1910. They were married at Carsonville and moved to Oscoda. They came back to Carsonville in 1893 and settled on a farm south of town, where Mrs. Thornton resided until 1917. The last few years of her life were spent in Port Huron at the home of her son, Guy J."
