After receiving an honorable discharge, he attended UCLA and Loyola Law School. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1952 and was one of the early Chinese-American lawyers in Southern California. He was for many years a member of the Shriners International and the Masons of California.
He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Patricia Ann, his sons, Federal Judge Robert N. Kwan and Edward Michael Kwan, JD, his daughter, Susan Ten-Kwan, JD, and his stepdaughter, MCPO Cynthia Kennedy, USN (ret.).
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1712 South Glendale Avenue, Glendale, CA.
