|Birth: ||1757, England|
|Death: ||Dec. 2, 1836|
My earliest know Hacking ancestor, James Hacking was born about 1757. On 21 July 1799 at Burton-in-Kendal, he married a much younger women, Ann Pearson, born in 1780. They had three sons: James (1800-1800), William (1801-abt 1848), and James (1802-1839). They had 15 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren, William had 9 children and James had 6 before he died. The widow of James, Jane Pearson, married again and had 4 more children.
We have no record of James before he married Ann Pearson in 1799. He is listed as a Twine spinner on the birth records of his sons, but his will describes significant ownership of properties, for which he receive rental payment. Some have claimed he was an English Earl, but we do not have proof of that or what happened to his wife after he died. Since many of the baptisms, marriages, and burials took place at this church, it is assumed that he is buried here, but no record has been found so far.
