Adam George Hecker, 88, Minot, ND, died Thursday, April 17, 2003 in a Minot Nursing Home.

Adam was born on April 26, 1914, in Mandan, ND, the last son of Frank and Veronica (Brucker) Hecker. Adam was a third generation German from Russia. He was raised in Mandan and attended school there until the end of his sophomore year when he began employment of a bottler at the Mandan Beverage Co. During his years of employment there he married Lily Aster Peterson on March 13, 1937. They had three children by the time Adam was required to work in a defense plant. He went to work at the Everett, Washington Shipyard in the fall of 1943. Adam and family stayed in Everett until late in 1944 when they returned to North Dakota to live at Devils Lake. Adam worked in a succession of jobs for the Nash Finch Company, a wholesale food distribution corporation, as a warehouseman, city deliverer, truck driver and salesman. He worked much of the North Central part of the state. During this time the family had grown to five children. They all attended St. Mary's Academy. In 1957, Adam was transferred to Minot, ND, with The Nash Finch Company. Several years later, Adam finished his working years as a custodian for the Minot Public School System. He was lifetime supporter of unionization of employment for workers. He enjoyed hunting upland game birds, duck, geese, and deer. He fished throughout his active life and was particularly fond of walleye. Dancing and listening to Lawrence Welk was also a lifetime pastime.

Adam was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boiler Makers, Iron Ship Builders and Helpers of America and North Dakota Public Employees Union.
